Why "OceanSafe"? Do you collect plastics from the oceans or from beaches?

We do not collect plastics from the oceans or beaches. The name OceanSafe derives from our technology and textile materials’ trait of being safe for the worlds’ oceans.

If a textile product is made with OceanSafe technology, it does not emit persistent microplastics, toxicants or other harmful materials into the environment or water cycles.

What is the difference between OceanSafe materials and OceanSafe Certified?

Although OceanSafe Certified and OceanSafe materials overlap, the two must not be confused.

OceanSafe materials solely refers to our developments of circular textile materials – currently naNea and coNea.

OceanSafe Certified is our holistic product development solution for circular finished products. Major pillars of this solution are our component kit, certified value chains and solutions for end of life.

What is the role of Cradle to Cradle?

Many consider the “Cradle to Cradle” product design philosophy as the theoretical foundation of the circular economy.

At OceanSafe, we work to practically implement the ideas of Cradle to Cradle (C2C) in the textile industry. We ensure that our technology and materials are compliant with the principles of C2C.

What is naNea?

naNea is our first-generation circular textile material and designed to replace conventional polyester. It is the first synthetic textile material that has satisfied the strict Cradle to Cradle Certified^® Gold standards.

Which textile products can OceanSafe materials be used for?

Our materials are designed to replace conventional textile materials, such as polyester (naNea) or cotton (coNea). Essentially, they may be used to design and manufacture the same products conventional materials are used for – regardless of that being fashion items, or home or technical textiles.
